I'll use this posting to describe my upcoming trip to South America. For those following the adventure, below is a general overview/timeline.
Here is a Google Map of my entire trip.
> Depart Vancouver - Jan 26th 14:30, arrive Buenos Aires (via Toronto) - Jan 27th, 15:45
- Buenos Aires is 5 Hours ahead of Vancouver
- The flight from Toronto to Buenos Aires is 14 hours
- Air Canada recently cancelled my original flight on the 27th, so now I must leave a day early to make my trip start date
Arriving in Beunos Aires, Argentina I start a tour from a Company Called "Tucan Travel", the tour name is "Tango & Samba".
The tour will take me into Uruguay, back into Argentina, then into Brazil at IguazĂș Falls, one of the largest water falls in the world, wider than Victoria falls, but broken up by islands. Iguazu Falls puts Niagara falls to shame ;).
From there I head deeper into Brazil going through Curitiba, Sao Paulo, Parati and onto Rio de Janerio.
I stay in Rio for about 5 days (6 hour time difference ahead of Vancouver), enjoying Carnival, one the largest and best parties/events in the world, nearing 500K tourists alone to the events.
On Feb 17th from Rio I head to Quito, Ecuador via a day of most likly hair pulling connector flights through many cities. I stop in Quito (3 hours ahead of Vancouver) only as a stopping point to the Galapagos, Ecuador 1000Km west of main part of Ecuador/mainland (2 hours ahead of Vancouver).
In the Galapagos, I'll be diving on a Live-aboard dive charter boat for 7 days, with a company called Peter Hughes Diving. Hopefully I'll have a breath taking experience, perhaps encounters with schooling hammer heads, snorkling with penguins and then ofcourse visiting the great local wildlife including the Galapagos Giant Tortoise (600lbs, 4ft long, 100-150 years old).
After Galapagos I head back to Quito for another stop over day, before heading to Cusco (Peru) via Lima (Peru), on March 1st, for a trek up Machu Picchu aka the "Lost City of the Incas".
After all of those whirlwind adventures, I fly home from Lima, via Bogota Columbia. I over night in Bogota! Then onwards to Toronto arriving home in Vancouver, March 7th, at 10:35am.
I'm loaded up with cameras, batteries and my unyielding sense of adventure and perhaps some mischief. I look forward to posting more blog entries as I go, so those interested may also get enjoyment of my exploits.
