Diving was great, whether it was the shark feed or the potato cod feed or the enormous loggerhead turtle hiding on one of the night dives. I've always been fascinated by turtles and this turtle was big, I now have seen a why there is a perception of riding on the back of a turtle, this fellow could whisk me away no problem ;).
Danielle acquired her advanced diving certification while on the boat so she could go deeper and dive at night with us. The boat was good, only about half full so room to move around without being cramped, we were kindly upgraded to the best room, the stateroom on the boat so had a bit more room yet! We went with Taka Dive, crew was superperb, food was delicious, really everything came together. We met a funny great fellow Vancouverite who was a crew member (Michelle) who also used to work for North Shore Credit Union! We had an apparently "calm" crossing to Osprey Reef which is 140km out from the main reef, so good size waves/swells to keep the boat a rocking all night long, no sea sickness, woohoo!
On the dives there was plenty of corals, plenty of amazing fish, lots of clown fish (think Nemo) and many others such as lion fish. It is impossible to keep track whether you saw fish species x before or not as the colour variations are so numerous!
We did get to watch a shark feed and I found a shark tooth on the bottom after the action cleared out. The camera guy is pretty brave to get right in there even with some shark bite protection on, we have a HD video of the whole thing we'll share eventually.
Thus far the Aussie sun has only taught us one lesson, back of legs while snorkeling otherwise we've been pretty good.
We are now back on land and trying to our the land legs back, this island of Australia seems to be unstable and rocks according to my eyes right now ;)
So we now rent our camper van and head onto phase two, driving the coast, a few days and we should be in Brisbane!
Coca-Cola Australia also has a cool marketing campaign going "share a coke with ..." different names are printed on each bottle, one of the first I saw was share a coke with Anthony! Thus far some of the good ones have been share with your "bro", "mate", "boss" and regrettably "sis".
