Ok, so I made it into Addis Abba and onto Nairobi, I felt safe proceeding and I am glad I did, everything here seems calm and safe, I had to travel past the infamous park to get to my hotel and although it had heavy police presence there was no protesting at the time.
I am proceeding current as-is with my trip, with a small change, the tour company is going to do my tour in reverse so we head to Tanzania (Arusha) first thing tomorrow and don't go back into Kenya for many days, thus if things in the west are still bad we may just spend all our time in Tanzanian game parks.
The tour starts in a few mins (briefing) after that I may not have internet for 12 days, so no freaking out if there isn't an update for awhile.
Ok, so the trip thus far:
WOW, I got to travel on a 777-200 from Van to Toronto, this was amazing, Bus class gets their own pod, it was amazing. I also found the lounges at Toronto much better than Van (pour your own drink as stiff as u want). Sorry Jens, but the lounge in Frnkfurt for Lufthansa/Star Alliance kinda sucked, no internet. Toronto had internet but it was broken, which I guess wasn't much better...... but no free internet, this is 2008 ;)
Addis Abba was cool, I didn't book a hotel and this turned into a great thing, Ethopia Airlines helped me book a hotel (20$USD), which include a airline bus to and from the hotel, it included dinner and breakfast. For 20$ it was reasonably good, I've had far worse in Thailand for more money. I definitly liked my brief stay in Ethopia, everyone seemed happy, I could see a heard of Goats on the street across from my room, what more could you want.... oh a free bus tour of the city while the bus picked up other passengers!!
Oh yes, I can now say I've been to Sudan, apparently my Frankfurt to Addis Abba flight was not direct, we spent like 3 hours sitting waiting for the refuel and stuff, and I didn't step feet on the ground, but I did get to enjoy the warm air and snap a shot of the airport and check out all the UN airplanes and helicopters!
On my flight to Nairobi I met a wonderful local lady whom actually gave me a ride right to my hotel and was able to let me know if I was heading into a really bad area, etc... This made getting here amazingly simple and safe.
Nairobi.... so I've already met a few fellow tour mates, including a nice couple from BC (Terrace), me and the guy walked into the city center a bit this afternoon, including walking by the infamous park that the protest keeps happening at.
Our tour guide appears perfect, our truck looks not much more than a year old and looks just amazing, given the tour originally was suppose to have 17, no its expected less than 7 will show up for the kick-off in 30 minutes (hopefully this means Dan can slip all by himself in his own tent ;) I don't want to share the lion cuddle time with anyone damn it!!!!
Vacation is great thus far, everyone is great and helpful.
Dapper Dan over and out, perhaps for 12 days!!!
PS, did I mention its hot? ;)

Good to hear that you made it alright. But what's with the dizzing of my homeland, man? I'm surprised to hear that there's no internet in the Frankfurt lounge, because I remember that used it quite often when we went on business travel. ;-)
Anyways, stay safe. Can't wait for the Gorilla stories.
