Welcome to my travelog-blog-thingee, this is where I will attempt to provide updates as to the fun and adventure I hope to be having while on my trip to East Africa.
I will start with an overall view of the trip:
> Jan 3rd - Depart Vancouver - 6am (unholy hour indeed)
-> Calgary
-> Toronto
-> Franfurt
-> Addis Abba (Ethopia)
-> Arrive Addis -> 20:30 Friday Jan 4th, lets just agree its a LONG flight.
-> Addis Abba is only a one-night stop over, this was due to the limited Aeroplan seats flying directly to Nairobi (Kenya), so I did it in a round-about way.
-> Jan 5th -> Addis Abba -> Nairobi (Kenya)
-> Jan 5th - Nairobi - I join my Safari Trek fellow travellors
-> Jan 5th -> Jan 16th - ANIMALS ANIMALS ANMIALS
* way too many places to list which I will be visiting, including a circle that takes me through parts of Tanaznia including Arusha
* this is where Dan hopes to hug a lion, NOT
-> Jan 5th -> Jan 16th - Find Scotty (did u tell Kathy yet?) a Meerkat for him to have as a pet - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meerkat
-> Jan 17th - Nairobi - fly to Entebbe (Uganda)
-> Jan 18th -> Jan 20th - Gorilla Trek
* Dan will spend one day, no more than 1 hour face-face with real live Gorilla's, no gages, no protection..... if they think I am bad mojo, we might have a problem. PS, I must remember to turn off my flash, they hate that more than they hate tourists in general.
-> Jan 20th -> Back to Entebbe (overnight)
-> Jan 21st -> Entebee (Uganda) -> Nairobi (Kenya) -> Zanzibar (Tanzania)
-> Jan 21st -> Unknown -> Zanzibar
* Dan hopes to spend time on this beautful island, check out the local beaches, diving and the unique town of "Stone Town". Find other tourists to hang out with (single-tourist-girls are much more preferrable ofcourse).
-> Unknown -> Unknown -> Ferry over to Dar Es Salaam -> Explore / Do Stuff
-> Unknown -> Unknown -> Bus up to Mobasa -> Go Diving with a Whale Shark - Hangout with other beach tourists.... Find other tourists to hang out with (single-tourist-girls are much more preferrable ofcourse).
-> Feb 7th - Return to Nairobi
-> Feb 8th -> 12:50 - Start the flights home -> Nairobi -> Zurich -> Montreal -> Vancouver
-> Feb 8th -> 20:39 Arrive YVR - HOME
Interesting facts about Dan's trip:
- Thanks to Echo I have nearly 100GB of storage for Video and Pictures (will see them on YouTube and Flickr via the links on your right)
- Kenya is 11 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time - http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/africa/kenya/time.htm
- Dan has not booked a single hotel/hostel/place to sleep yet, including his first night in Ethiopia (they have a Hilton ya know, I can always crash there I figure ;)
- Total trip length is 5 weeks and 1 day
- I must take my own sleeping bag, during the 12 day East Africa Safari, I will be "Participation Camping", that is correct..... Camping beside the lions. Now some ppl have lied, created mis-truths about my level of snoring and feel this noise will attrack the lions. They give me 2 nights before I am late-night-snack food for the lions.
- As part of camping you also have to help cook and put up your tent and all that good stuff.... Each day we usually travel to a completly new spot to camp ;)
This should give everyone a quick overview of what to expect from my journal over the next 5 weeks, hopefully I can post every now and then and provide a glimpse as to the great countries I hope Kenya/Tanzania are, which I hope to get to know shortly.
